Class X Reporters in Action

We the students of Class X were given the following Curriculum Framing Questions"

Essential Question How can I make a difference?

Unit Questions How does Literature reflect society?

Do superstitions exist in the 21st century?

Content Questions What superstitious beliefs did the peasants have?

What religious beliefs did the peasants hold?

How is the mother’s love depicted in The Night of the Scorpion? Is it in any way different from your mother’s love?

Keeping the above questions in mind we collaborated as a team of reporters and decided on some common superstitions that influence our thinking and behaviour.  We share our findings with you.

    In India, especially in the villages, there are innumerable beliefs and superstitions that govern every aspect of life from birth to death. Many literate people exploit the ignorance of the villagers to their own advantage but sometimes are at a loss for words when they engage with problems that have no ready made solutions. They prefer to operate from a closed mindset accounting their belief system as being influenced by their ancestors.

  2. Some common superstitions in India and in other parts of the world as well:
    1. don't cross the path of a black cat.
    2. don't tickle the sole of a baby's feet it will make him stutter.
    3. don't trim your nails in the night.
    4. don't leave your shoes upside down.
    5. don't leave the home if a glass is broken.
